My tea towels are in sad shape! I’ve had some of them since our wedding and they look like it! It was time for a few new ones.
I love the flour sack towels and bought a pack of plain ones and then went through my photos to pick out some I could transfer to my new towels. When we lived in Dublin, I took lots of photos of the cast iron that was every where. I especially loved the crosses. I thought a few of them would look cool on my tea towels!
Here are the original photos of the crosses –
Then in Photoshop I used the “cut out” tool (under the “Filter”, “Artistic” drop down) and erased the backgrounds to give me more stylized crosses. I then printed them on transfer paper and ironed them on my tea towels!
I also did a couple of just straight photographs I’d taken –
You can’t really see the one under the Eiffel Tower. It’s a photo of a pear on a tree in Yakima. My roots….
I had a lot of fun doing these and now have a new easy gift idea!
So I REALLY like those towells too and I REALLY like gifts. 🙂 Just sayin.
I love these! And I’m with Beck, I love gifts too. Heh heh. I also like trades!
May I commission a few of these?
You can of course…Let me guess, Eiffel?
Love these – not sure which is cooler, the photos or the tea towels. Well done, you.
just reading about this on amy’s blog. great job!! do these really not wash out? can you give me more tips – where did you get your favorite transfer paper, what type of towel is best – linen? did you find these online? really do like these. you are so creative!!
Thanks Molly! They don’t wash out but will probably crack eventually. I bought the transfer papers at Joann’s but you can get them at office supply or other craft stores too. I don’t have a favorite. And I just bought a pack of plain flour sack dish towels. It was really easy!
