OK, granted, I as a professional portrait photographer, I’m gonna say it’s important to hire professional photographer for corporate headshots. I know I’m coming from a bias. But let me try and convince you of the importance your image is to your company or to your professional profile page and you can decide for yourself.
How important is a good image?
Right now, go to a website of a company you admire. Maybe it’s your competition? Maybe it’s a product you like or use? What is the photography like on their website? Chances are, if they are crushing it, they have good photography on their site.
Whether we like it or not, the images on websites or on our profile pages matter. People like to know the faces of the people their working with! As we continue to do more and more business online, it becomes increasingly important to add personality to websites, to show people who you are and to add human touch to a potentially stale online transaction.
What’s the competition doing?
If others in your industry have images of themselves, so should you. If others in your industry do not, then you definitely should because this is your opportunity to stand out from your competition!
Quality Matters
People can tell the difference from a snapshot to a professional headshot. Don’t cheap out by not hiring someone good to take your photos. Cousin Pam with her DSLR covered in dust isn’t going to know how to pose you, how to get the best light, what backgrounds to use, locations, branding, etc. Having cheap photography makes you look like you don’t care about representing you or your business.
Quality AND Quantity
The amount of quality images that you can get from a professional session will far exceed the one OK one you might get in your backyard with your friend taking your photos. Depending on how your photographer delivers the image(s), whether s/he gives you all the images or allows you to chose one of two of your favorites, at least you will have many to make your selection from.
But I hate having my photo taken…
This might surprise you, but no one ever tells me that. You’re the only one who feels uncomfortable in front of the camera. The only one in the whole world! Ha! That is the most frequent words out of people’s mouths when I meet them. Believe me, I totally get it! It’s uncomfortable for me too. But I still do it. I find someone I trust who is going to help me relax and capture images I’m happy with. It’s not painful, just uncomfortable. Put on your grown-up pants and just do it!
Hopefully I’ve convinced you to pony up and work with a professional for your corporate headshots! As I said, I am coming from a bias but I do think that professional headshots make a difference and the investment will pay for itself in new jobs or new job offers!
